Ghost

Connect a Ghost blog, then post articles by hand or automatically, as drafts or live.

Connect a Ghost blog to a project and AppearsIn can post the articles it writes, by hand or automatically. Connect it on the Content page. Each project has its own connection, so each can post to its own blog.

What you need

Get the key

  1. In Ghost, open Settings, then Integrations.
  2. Choose Add custom integration and give it a name, such as AppearsIn.
  3. Copy the Admin API key. It is 24 characters, a colon, then 64 more. Do not use the Content API key.

Connect

  1. On the Content page, enter the Ghost address and the key, and choose how new articles are handled.
  2. Press Connect Ghost. AppearsIn checks the connection in the background and the page shows Connected with your blog's name, or the reason Ghost refused it.

Nothing is posted until the connection shows as connected. To change only how articles are handled, choose a different option and press Save, and leave the key blank to keep the saved one. To change the address you must enter the key again.

How new articles are handled

OptionWhat happens when an article is written
I post each one myselfNothing is sent. Use Send to Ghost as draft or Publish live on an article when you want it posted.
Send each new article to Ghost as a draftThe article is created in Ghost as a draft. Review it there and publish it yourself.
Publish each new article live on GhostThe article goes live straight away, with nobody reading it first.

The default is to post by hand. Automatic posting applies to articles written after you choose it, and it never posts the same article twice.

What is sent to Ghost

The article's title and body, converted from Markdown to a Ghost post, with the status you chose. Its pictures are uploaded to your Ghost media library first, so the post does not depend on AppearsIn to show them, and the featured image is set as the post's feature image. That is all: no tags, author, or custom URL. Set those in Ghost.

If something goes wrong

You seeWhat to check
Ghost refused the keyUse the Admin API key, not the Content API key, and copy all of it. Check that the integration still exists in Ghost.
That address is not a Ghost siteUse the address of your Ghost admin, ending in /ghost/.
Your address redirects somewhere elseEnter the final address, after any redirect, for example with or without www.
Must start with https://Use the secure address of your blog.
Points inside a private networkAppearsIn can only reach a public Ghost site. Use the public address.
Ghost would not take a pictureGhost refused an image upload, often because the file is larger than your site allows. Nothing is posted when a picture fails, so raise the limit or try again.
Could not reach your Ghost siteThe site was down or too slow. Try again from the Content page.

If a post fails, the article is kept, the reason is shown on it, and you can send it again. If Ghost is unreachable when an automatic article is written, the article waits in Content and nothing is lost.
