Outrank alternative
AppearsIn is software that helps a brand get named in AI answers. It checks whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overview, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok and Meta Muse Spark name your brand for the questions your buyers ask, shows the sources those answers rely on, and watches where the web mentions you and your competitors. Then it helps you show up in those sources, starting with Reddit: it finds the threads that already rank, drafts one reply per thread in your voice, and posts it from your own Reddit account after you approve it.
The short answer
Outrank writes and publishes SEO articles every day, builds backlinks, and posts to most blog platforms. AppearsIn writes fewer articles and starts from a different question: does ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or another assistant name your brand, and which sources do they rely on. It then works on Reddit, where many of those answers come from. Choose Outrank for volume, backlinks and broad publishing. Choose AppearsIn to measure and improve how AI engines mention you.

What Outrank does
Outrank describes itself as an AI SEO platform that generates and publishes blog content daily, researches keywords, builds backlinks, makes images, writes in 150+ languages and publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Framer, Wix, Notion, Ghost, webhooks and Next.js, or to a free blog it hosts. Its site also says it helps you get recommended by ChatGPT and lists an AI Visibility feature, without describing how it is measured.
AppearsIn writes articles too, from the questions where AI engines do not name you, with pictures, and posts them to your Ghost blog. The difference is the loop around them: it scores seven AI engines for your tracked questions, shows the sources they cite, finds the Reddit threads that rank for those questions, and drafts a reply for each, posted from your own account after you approve it.
Outrank generates and publishes SEO blog articles, builds backlinks, and says it helps you get recommended by AI assistants. AppearsIn starts from the other end: it checks whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Google AI Overview and Meta Muse Spark name your brand, writes articles for the questions where they do not, and replies in the Reddit threads those engines rely on.

Why AppearsIn
AppearsIn measures whether AI engines name you, before and after, and works on Reddit as well as your blog. Outrank publishes to far more platforms and builds backlinks, which AppearsIn does not. Starter is $99 a month, the same as Outrank's Organic Growth plan.
How AppearsIn works
- You enter the questions your buyers ask. AppearsIn reads your site to propose them, and you edit the list.
- It checks seven AI engines (four weekly, three monthly) for whether they name you, who they name instead and which pages they cite.
- It finds the Reddit threads that rank on Google for those questions and writes one draft reply per thread, in your voice.
- You approve each draft. The extension posts it from your own Reddit account, on a button press or automatically within daily limits, and stops itself if the account is suspended or comments are removed.
See the extension docs for every posting limit, and the pricing page for plans.
Using both, or switching
They do different jobs, so using both is reasonable: Outrank for volume publishing and backlinks, AppearsIn for the AI-answer score and the Reddit replies. If you do, keep the AI score as your measure of whether the articles are helping.
Get startedQuestions
Does Outrank track whether AI names my brand?
Its site lists an AI Visibility feature and talks about being recommended by ChatGPT, without saying how it is measured. AppearsIn scores whether seven AI engines name your brand for the questions you track.
Does AppearsIn build backlinks?
No. Outrank lists automated backlink building. AppearsIn gets you mentioned through Reddit replies and articles, and does not build backlinks.
How does AppearsIn pricing compare with Outrank?
Outrank lists Organic Growth at $99 a month, or $999 a year, with 30 articles a month. AppearsIn Starter is $99 a month with 8 articles and a Reddit workflow, and Lite starts at $49 a month.
Is Outrank or AppearsIn better for AI visibility?
AppearsIn measures it: it scores seven AI engines for the questions you track. Outrank's site talks about AI citations and an AI Visibility feature without describing how it works, so ask before relying on it.
Which publishes more articles?
Outrank. It lists 30 a month on the main plan, with 60 or 90 as add-ons. AppearsIn includes 3 to 40 a month by plan.
Are articles the same as being named in AI answers?
Not by themselves. Articles can help, but AI engines also lean on forums such as Reddit. AppearsIn scores whether seven engines name you and works on both the articles and the Reddit threads.
Can I use an SEO article tool and AppearsIn together?
Yes. They do different jobs: one publishes content at volume, the other measures whether AI engines name you and replies on Reddit.
Does AppearsIn guarantee that AI engines will name my brand?
No. Nobody controls what an assistant says. AppearsIn shows what each engine says today, so you can see whether your work changes it.
