AppearsIn

Octolens alternative

AppearsIn is software that helps a brand get named in AI answers. It finds the Reddit threads that already rank for a buyer's questions, drafts one reply per thread in your voice, and posts it from your own Reddit account after you approve it. It also tracks whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overview, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok and Meta Muse Spark name your brand, and where Reddit and the wider web mention you and your competitors.

The short answer

Octolens is an AI social listening tool that monitors 15 or more platforms, including Reddit, and drafts replies for you to review, from $199 a month. AppearsIn costs $99 a month, focuses on Reddit and AI answers, and posts the approved reply from your own account. Choose Octolens if your audience is spread across many platforms, and AppearsIn if Reddit and AI answers are the main channel.

What Octolens does

Octolens positions itself as one API for every mention across the internet, with AI social listening across more than fifteen platforms: Reddit, LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, GitHub, YouTube, Hacker News, Stack Overflow, TikTok, DEV, podcasts, newsletters, news, the web and reviews. It drafts replies for Reddit, LinkedIn and general use, and its replies are drafts for a person to review and post. Plans are Pro at $199 a month ($159 billed yearly), Scale at $599 ($499 yearly) and Enterprise on request, with a 7-day trial.

AppearsIn covers Reddit in more depth and nothing outside it except AI answers: it finds ranking threads, drafts the reply, and posts the approved comment through the extension from your account. It also tracks seven AI engines.

Octolens monitors Reddit, LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, GitHub, YouTube, Hacker News and more, drafts replies for human review, and does not post them. AppearsIn is built for Reddit and posts the approved reply through its extension.

Why AppearsIn

AppearsIn Starter is $99 a month against Octolens Pro at $199 a month, and it posts the approved reply for you. Octolens watches many more platforms, so choose it if your audience is spread across them.

How AppearsIn works

  1. You enter the questions your buyers ask. AppearsIn reads your site to propose them, and you edit the list.
  2. It checks seven AI engines (four weekly, three monthly) for whether they name you, who they name instead and which pages they cite.
  3. It finds the Reddit threads that rank on Google for those questions and writes one draft reply per thread, in your voice.
  4. You approve each draft. The extension posts it from your own Reddit account, on a button press or automatically within daily limits, and stops itself if the account is suspended or comments are removed.

See the extension docs for every posting limit, and the pricing page for plans.

Using both, or switching

Teams that need wide listening sometimes pair a listening tool such as Octolens with a Reddit-specific tool such as AppearsIn. If you do, decide which tool is the source of truth for Reddit replies so that two tools do not suggest the same thread.
