AppearsIn

F5Bot alternative

AppearsIn is software that helps a brand get named in AI answers. It finds the Reddit threads that already rank for a buyer's questions, drafts one reply per thread in your voice, and posts it from your own Reddit account after you approve it. It also tracks whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overview, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok and Meta Muse Spark name your brand, and where Reddit and the wider web mention you and your competitors.

The short answer

F5Bot is a free alert service: it watches Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters for your keywords and emails or posts you a notice. It does not draft or post replies. AppearsIn costs $99 a month and goes further on Reddit: it finds the threads that rank for your questions, drafts the reply, posts it from your account after you approve, and measures whether AI engines name your brand. Use F5Bot for free alerts, and AppearsIn when you want to act on them.

What F5Bot does

F5Bot, run by F5Bot LLC since 2017, watches Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters for keywords in posts and comments. You choose the keywords and it sends alerts by email, either instantly, batched or as a daily digest, and by Slack, Discord, RSS or JSON feed, with API access on paid plans. There is a free tier with no card required, and Silver and Gold plans with higher keyword limits. It monitors and alerts only.

AppearsIn is for the step after the alert. Rather than watching for keywords, it starts from the questions your buyers ask, finds the Reddit threads that rank for them on Google, drafts a reply for each, and posts the approved reply from your account. It also checks seven AI engines for whether they name your brand.

F5Bot watches Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters for your keywords and sends alerts by email, Slack, Discord, RSS or API. It does not draft or post replies. AppearsIn covers the next steps: drafting, approval, posting and tracking AI answers.

Why AppearsIn

F5Bot is free to start, and Silver and Gold are $9.99 and $49.99 a month. Use it if alerts are all you need. AppearsIn costs more because it also writes the reply, posts it from your account and measures whether AI engines name you.

How AppearsIn works

  1. You enter the questions your buyers ask. AppearsIn reads your site to propose them, and you edit the list.
  2. It checks seven AI engines (four weekly, three monthly) for whether they name you, who they name instead and which pages they cite.
  3. It finds the Reddit threads that rank on Google for those questions and writes one draft reply per thread, in your voice.
  4. You approve each draft. The extension posts it from your own Reddit account, on a button press or automatically within daily limits, and stops itself if the account is suspended or comments are removed.

See the extension docs for every posting limit, and the pricing page for plans.

Using both, or switching

F5Bot and AppearsIn do different jobs, so many teams can use both: F5Bot for fast keyword alerts across Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters, and AppearsIn for the replies in ranking threads and AI answer tracking.

Questions

Is F5Bot enough on its own?

For alerts, yes. It does not draft or post replies, so you write and post them yourself.

Can I use F5Bot and AppearsIn together?

Yes. F5Bot also watches Hacker News and Lobsters, which AppearsIn does not.

How much does F5Bot cost?

A free plan, Silver at $9.99 a month for 20 keywords, and Gold at $49.99 a month for 200 keywords.

Is F5Bot enough for Reddit marketing?

For being alerted when your keywords appear, yes. It does not draft or post replies, so you write and post them yourself, and it does not tell you which threads rank on Google.

Does AppearsIn watch Hacker News?

No. AppearsIn focuses on Reddit and AI answers, and its mention search also looks at sites such as X, YouTube, Quora, blogs and review sites. F5Bot covers Hacker News and Lobsters.
